Did I Really Eat That? How to Quickly Recover From a Binge

Did I Really Eat That? How to Quickly Recover From a Binge

 by: Jackie Stanley

At one time or another, we have all awakened to the sight of empty soda bottles, pizza boxes, candy bar wrappers, or ice cream containers strewn about our bedroom, den or kitchen and asked ourselves: ?Did I really eat all that??

Rather than accepting binges as temporary relapses, we tend to react by beating ourselves up for falling off the wagon and failing to follow through our healthy eating plan. Here are a few concrete actions you can take after a binge to successfully coach yourself from relapse to recovery in as little time as possible:

Go Ahead and Vent!

Give yourself 10 minutes to vent about your setback. Set a timer to make certain you don?t get carried away, and then use this time to whine about why you can?t eat whatever you want. Complain about how much you hate to exercise. Blame your mother and rave on about why it is not your fault that you...

Speed up Metabolism

Speed up Metabolism

 by: P. Mehta

Metabolism is essentially the speed at which our body's motor is running. The speed at which our body burns calories is called the metabolic rate. It's how fast your "motor" is running when you're still in a reclined position or sleeping. About 60-75% of energy is expended by the body at rest in such activities.

The metabolism is based on the number of calories we burn throughout the day. Our body constantly burns calories to keep us going whether we are eating, sleeping, cleaning etc. People with a lower percentage of body fat (i.e. muscular) have a higher metabolism than others that are less muscular because muscle uses more calories to maintain itself than fat. Some people have a slower metabolic rate and have a harder time staying slim. Younger persons have higher (faster) metabolism because of the increased activity of cells. A slow metabolism actually causes to store fat. The slower the metabolic rate,...

Watch Your Weight This Halloween

Watch Your Weight This Halloween

 by: Tracie Johanson

For those of us who are looking for quick weight loss, Halloween can be a scary experience! While just one night of indulgence in Halloween candy might not be enough to break your belt, dipping into the leftover stockpile for weeks on end will surely derail your diet or weight loss program.

In 1921, in Anoka, MN, the United States enjoyed our first recorded instance of a Halloween celebration. Annual candy consumption has climbed almost unabated since then. According to the Census Bureau, Americans eat nearly a half-pound of candy each week for an average of 25 pounds of candy a year. Candy is big business, with the United States boasting 1,040 manufacturing establishments producing chocolate and cocoa products in 2001. These establishments employed 45,913 people and shipped $12 billion worth of goods that year. Another 616 U.S. establishments manufactured non-chocolate confectionery products...

Think carefully about what your child needs when you teach right from wrong. Research reveals 92% of high school students say they are satisfied with their own ethics and character, yet 1/4 admit stealing within the past year. (Josephson Institute of Ethics)

You gave your child the gift of life. Give your child character too. The method below offers you a 3-D Character Building Activity.

I remember counseling with an overworked mom who gave very little time to her daughter. The police caught 10-year old Jessica shoplifting not once but twice. Children who steal at an early age may be filling a hole in their hearts - lack of time with their parents. Find out how Jessica's mom used the Character Building Activity below to stop Jessica from becoming a habitual shoplifter.

3-D Activity:

1.Discover - Jessica's mom questioned, listened well, and discovered how Jessica...
