Metabolism is essentially the speed at which our body's motor is running. The speed at which our body burns calories is called the metabolic rate. It's how fast your "motor" is running when you're still in a reclined position or sleeping. About 60-75% of energy is expended by the body at rest in such activities.
The metabolism is based on the number of calories we burn throughout the day. Our body constantly burns calories to keep us going whether we are eating, sleeping, cleaning etc. People with a lower percentage of body fat (i.e. muscular) have a higher metabolism than others that are less muscular because muscle uses more calories to maintain itself than fat. Some people have a slower metabolic rate and have a harder time staying slim. Younger persons have higher (faster) metabolism because of the increased activity of cells. A slow metabolism actually causes to store fat. The slower the metabolic rate, the greater the weight gains. How to build muscles to improve metabolism? What type of exercise is ideal that speed up metabolism so that you burn calories even at rest or sleep? There are simple exercises that speed up the metabolism.
Causes for Low Metabolism
Metabolism Boosters
There are some natural metabolism boosters (natural foods) that improves your metabolism. Do not take over the counter pills containing animal thyroid extract that claim to boost up metabolism. These products may have side effects as diarrhea, increased heart rate, excessive sweating, nervousness, tremors, bulging eyes, etc.

Did I Really Eat That? How to Quickly Recover From a Binge
Did I Really Eat That? How to Quickly Recover From a Binge
by: Jackie Stanley
At one time or another, we have all awakened to the sight of empty soda bottles, pizza boxes, candy bar wrappers, or ice cream containers strewn about our bedroom, den or kitchen and asked ourselves: ?Did I really eat all that??
Rather than accepting binges as temporary relapses, we tend to react by beating ourselves up for falling off the wagon and failing to follow through our healthy eating plan. Here are a few concrete actions you can take after a binge to successfully coach yourself from relapse to recovery in as little time as possible:
Go Ahead and Vent!
Give yourself 10 minutes to vent about your setback. Set a timer to make certain you don?t get carried away, and then use this time to whine about why you can?t eat whatever you want. Complain about how much you hate to exercise. Blame your mother and rave on about why it is not your fault that you...

Don't Buy Baby Gift Baskets, Make Them Yourself
Don't Buy Baby Gift Baskets, Make Them Yourself
by: Isaac Rubins
Did you ever notice how some baby gifts stand out from the crowd while others seem to get lost in the pile of gifts? Baby gift baskets are nothing but a handful of gifts including toys, books, candy, etc. packed in a beautiful basket. But to buy baby gift baskets is not sufficient these days. The presentation is what matters the most. This has less to do with the cost of the baby gifts then with the way they are put together or presented.
Steps to Build a Beautiful Baby Gift Basket
To present a baby gift basket which looks unique and draws attention the following suggestions should be helpful:
1) While selecting the gifts to put in the basket one must carefully think about the current and important needs of the parents. For example, a coupon for baby sitting, especially at night, can be a very good option.
2) One can show his or her creativity by putting together...

Character Building by Designing Parents
by: Jean Tracy. MSS
Think carefully about what your child needs when you teach right from wrong. Research reveals 92% of high school students say they are satisfied with their own ethics and character, yet 1/4 admit stealing within the past year. (Josephson Institute of Ethics)
You gave your child the gift of life. Give your child character too. The method below offers you a 3-D Character Building Activity.
I remember counseling with an overworked mom who gave very little time to her daughter. The police caught 10-year old Jessica shoplifting not once but twice. Children who steal at an early age may be filling a hole in their hearts - lack of time with their parents. Find out how Jessica's mom used the Character Building Activity below to stop Jessica from becoming a habitual shoplifter.
3-D Activity:
1.Discover - Jessica's mom questioned, listened well, and discovered how Jessica...

Design Tips for a Great Kids Birthday Cake
by: Stephen Houlihan
These days, you can probably buy just about any style of child?s birthday cake already made. But there is nothing like the sense of satisfaction from making that special cake just for your child ? after all, they have each birthday only once!
There?s also the benefit of being able to control what ingredients are actually used in making the cake. Apart from producing a healthier cake, you can also cater for any allergies that your child or his/her friends may have.
Once you have decided to make the cake yourself, here are some tips to help you:
1. Don?t worry if you failed Art 101 dismally. Remember that kids don?t expect you to turn out a design worthy of da Vinci. Often they are more interested in the number (and color) of pieces of candy on top of the cake than the actual design itself.
2. In selecting a design for the cake, there are two main options: a specific...
